These groups are generally ‘Closed” (participation by application only, and the same group members for the duration) and often “Ongoing”, (a set numbers of modules staggered over a finite period of time). They always have a central and continuing theme of enquiry.
There are many advantages to working with the same people over time, foremost of which is the opportunity for the building of trust, understanding and mutual respect. With gaps of some months between modules there is plenty of time to integrate ideas and consolidate learning. Group members are supported in developing and maintaining contact with each other which results in a deep felt sense of community and a valuable exchange of ideas over the duration. Long-lasting friendships are often forged here.
